It’s no secret to those who know me that while I love Android with every fiber of my being there is still a soft place in my heart for RIM and their Blackberry smartphones.
RIM has answered my plea for an updated Blackberry Bold to be brought to a CDMA carrier with the newly announced Blackberry Bold 9900 and 9930 (9900 is GSM and 9930 is CDMA).
I wasn’t a huge fan of the Blackberry Torch because of it’s sliding form factor yet it’s newly revamped OS and browser made me sad that there weren’t more (good) touchscreen Blackberries. The 9900 is a traditional Blackberry in the sense that is has a screen, trackpad, and keyboard all on the front of the device with no sliding mechanisms, however, the screen of the 9900 is full capacitive touch (multitouch too) which allows you to use the trackpad for traditional navigation or touch if that’s what does it for you. The 9900 compares in size to the original Bold 9000 that was arguably voted the best Blackberry by Blackberry users, but the keyboard is even bigger than the 9000 allowing plenty of typing space for your thumbs to be comfortable with.
With accents like a stainless steel outer bezel and carbon fiber-esque (not really carbon fiber but a glass weave of the same family) battery door it’s hard not to like this new addition to the RIM family. I just hope Sprint gets it as close to the debut as possible. Full specs below.
