Wizard World St. Louis 2017 Preview

The America’s Center in St. Louis once again plays host to Wizard World, as we welcome the comic-con and pop culture event back to town.  As always, we here at 8daysageek will be there to cover it.  And as Wizard World continues to grow and expand into different areas of pop culture, adding new and interesting special events to each convention, we wanted to give everyone a preview of what they can expect at this weekend’s show.  Whether you’re looking for an autograph from an icon, a question and answer session with cult classic tv show stars, video game tournaments, cosplay contests, illusionists, a great lineup of children’s programming, or even that one comic book or action figure to complete your collection, then you will not be disappointed if you attend this year’s Wizard World event here in St. Louis.

The doors open at 3pm on Friday and if you are interested in any of the video game tournaments, registration starts right away!  Stop by the panel discussing what not to ask at a celebrity Q&A Friday afternoon, then watch in amazement as people still ask bad questions or make inappropriate requests of the celebrities during their panels. There will be balloon art, face painting, and the Masters of Illusion will dazzle the kids as part of Friday’s children’s programming.  Friday evening boasts numerous panels from a Sherlock fan panel to a Falconry demonstration.

Saturday is always the day to attend if you just can’t manage a three day ticket to the show.  This year is no exception.  We’ll kick off the biggest day of the event with magicians and jugglers, a Disney acapella group, and a fan panel to explain why the DC cinematic universe DOESN’T suck.  Purchase your tickets separately for a cosplay workshop that will teach you the basics of crafting your own costume for next year’s event. Celebrity panels stack the day Saturday as Ian Somerhalder, James Marsters, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn, and Jennifer Carpenter highlight the day.  You can even participate in the Pokemon game show, geek trivia, or the main event of the weekend…the cosplay contest–on the main stage from 5:30 to 7pm.  Finally, purchase your tickets to one of the special events being held Saturday evening.  For fans of the cult-classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, there is a special screening of the film with a display of original props and costumes!  Or if you’d like to rock and roll all night and party every day (I feel bad having just written that), you can purchase tickets to Wizard World Comic Con: An Evening With Gene Simmons And His Band.  They will be performing at the nearby Pageant.

Sunday offers a variety of programming.  From princess lessons for the children and a Q&A with The Monkees, to anime trivia and a conversation with the Weasley brothers, there is plenty to enjoy.  Personally, I like to spend my Sunday on the search for that next trade paperback I need or a new T-shirt to proudly display my geek love for Rick and Morty or Doctor Who.  Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram or Twitter @8daysageek for pictures of the amazing cosplay all weekend long.  Go there…geek out.
