Movie Trailer Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Out of the Shadows

I’ll be the first to admit I was thoroughly under whelmed by the first TMNT movie. I realize it was a “re-imagining” of the series and it was being launched fresh; but the idea that the turtles were actually the former lab-pets of April O’Neil was really, really, REALLY dumb. The fact that SHE named them flies in the face of everything that has come before (the fact that Splinter named them to represent his favorite artists) and the fact that these four just HAPPEN to get involved in her life…ok, backtracking, getting off topic, back to the trailer.

This story has a larger-than-life feel to it. We see something forming electrically charged clouds in the skies above the city and random pieces of concrete being flung about and ran into buildings.

We’re treated to some new tech the Turtles produce (including a made-for-toy-distribution) garbage truck which Donatello has reconfigured with all kinds of gadgets.

As the title alludes to, this film will bring the Turtles out from the sewers into the limelight.

Probably the most exciting, albeit expected, part of the trailer is the introduction of Casey Jones played by the boyishly handsome star of Arror – Stephen Arnell. He is, of course, coming to the aid of April who is surrounded by masked thugs.

As the trailer winds down the real stars of the film come to show – Bebop and Rocksteady and as if there needed to be visual proof that this film will be RIDICULOUS there is a scene where a tank rises from underwater being driven by Rocksteady firing it’s main gun at the turtles…that’s right, I said a TANK was being DRIVEN UNDERWATER…soak that in for a moment.

This film will most likely prove to be a disappointment as the first one was. We can only hope that the action scenes are enjoyable enough and the Megan Fox scenes (at least with her trying to act) are minimal.
