Pacific Rim: Novelization by Alexander Irvine

First let me say that I read this novelization before I went to see Pacific Rim in theaters; even then I was impressed.  Normally I don’t really like motion picture novelizations because authors try to add so much more to the book such as side stories and sometimes even new characters.  Alexander Irvine didn’t change anything about the story or characters and only added details and feelings that you might not have picked up on in the movie itself.  Telling the story of a robotic battle suit program created to save the Earth from an alien menace that’s entering our world from a portal in the ocean.

The book follows the movie exactly sometimes word for word, however, this is not always a bad thing.  There is one part of the novel that is leaps and bounds over the film and it’s also the reason that I read the book first, extra character info.  All throughout the book (mostly between chapters) there are files and dossiers about the characters, places, and events in the Pacific Rim universe.  These files give you an amazingly large understanding of the story and its world.

Overall the book was great, I truly enjoyed reading it.  If you like movie novelizations, or just want a little light reading (it took no time at all to finish the book) then pickup Pacific Rim and get a better look at the world that Travis Beacham and Guillermo Del Toro created for your enjoyment.

Pacific Rim: The Movie Novelization was compliments of Titan Books.
