Top 8 Events to look Forward to at Wizard World St. Louis

Next weekend, the famous Wizard World Comic Convention will be making its first ever appearance in St. Louis.  As many of you know, this is the hometown of many of the staff here at 8daysageek and we couldn’t be happier to welcome the con to our city.  A few of us, including yours truly, have been granted press passes for the event and will be covering it for your informational pleasure here on the site.  As I mentioned before, this is the con’s first time in St. Louis and for a debut event, the lineup of special guests and panels looks pretty impressive.  Thusly, I’m going to devote my list this week to the eight events at the upcoming Wizard World Comic Convention that I am most looking forward to.  That’s about all the exposition needed for my list this week, so let’s get straight to it!

doctorwho

#8. The Story of Doctor Who/Wibbley Wobbley Timey Wimey/50 Years in the TARDIS– Although I am not aware of any special guests from the iconic television show, the convention will be hosting a panel each day to placate the ravenous Who fans in attendance.  Friday night from 7pm to 7:45 will be The Story of Doctor Who, a discussion of the show’s origins as a children’s program and its evolution into a worldwide phenomenon.  Saturday from 11am to 11:45 we’ll be discussing everything Wibbley Wobbley as the panel focuses on the Eccleston and Tenant eras of the show and theories of what lies ahead in season seven.  Finally, Sunday from 11am to 11:45 we’ll celebrate the Doctor’s 50 Years in the TARDIS.  A panel of longtime fans will discuss their favorite moments, favorite Doctors, and celebrate everything Who.

geekgirl

#7. Geek Girls: Who are they and are they real?– Saturday evening from 6pm to 6:45 a panel of geek ladies will be discussing exactly what it means to be a geek of the fairer sex.  Are there fake geek girls?  Do they face challenges in a male dominated subculture?  Not only does this sound like an incredibly interesting panel to attend, but it’s where you’re going to find the greatest concentration of geek girls at the con.  It may also be the location of the most asthma attacks as geeks react to the abundance of females in their vicinity.

cosplay

#6. Wizard World Adult Costume Contest- What is a comic con without cosplay?  Well, come on Saturday night from 7-9pm and watch as the best costumes of the convention are awarded.  Wear your best superhero duds and enjoy the proceedings as host and winner of Stan Lee’s Who Wants to be a Superhero, Jarret Crippen, along with special guest judges Jesse Snider and Jason David Frank pick the winners of the contest.

dean cain john shea

#5. Superman and Lex Luthor Reunited with Dean Cain and John Shea- Can you handle sharing the same room with Superman and Lex Luthor without going into a geek-coma?  If so, join us on Saturday from 1-1:45pm as the stars of Lois and Clark take the stage for the first time together.  They will discuss the complex relationship between the duo and tell stories of what went on behind the scenes of the hit television show.  If you are a fan of the Man of Steel, this is the panel for you.

jamesmarstersejulietlan

#4. James Marsters and Juliet Landau Q&A- Join Spike and Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as they take the stage together on Sunday from 2-2:45pm to discuss their experiences on Joss Whedon’s hit television shows.  Find out about their current projects and what lies ahead for them as they answer questions about their multiple experiences working on geek-related programs.

morena-baccarin-actress-18872

#3. Firefly, Homeland and Beyond with Morena Baccarin- On Saturday from 12-12:45 pm you can sit in awe as the gorgeous Morena Baccarin discusses her travels all the way from Juliard to the hit Showtime series, Homeland.  Obviously, you know her from another of Joss Whedon’s brilliant creations, Firefly, but Morena isn’t just a one geek wonder.  She’s also starred in Stargate SG-1 and V.  Join our host, the Pop Culture Professor, Rebecca Housel as she moderates this panel where Morena Baccarin will answer questions regarding her roles in these science fiction staples.

laurie holden

#2. The Walking Dead’s Laurie Holden Q&A- What would the inaugural St. Louis Wizard World be without a special guest from one of televisions highest rated geek shows?  Join Andrea from AMC’s hit program, The Walking Dead on Sunday from 12-12:45pm as she takes the stage for the very first time!  Bring your questions about the zombie apocalypse or even her roles in other geek fare such as X-Files, Silent Hill, or Fantastic Four.  If that’s not enough geek cred, I don’t know what is!

Finally, we come to my number one event to look forward to at next weekend’s inaugural Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con.  It’s pretty obvious to me what takes this spot.  Whether you are a comic book aficionado or not, this man has affected the lives of probably every person in attendance next weekend.  So if you haven’t guessed it yet, the number one event on my list is……

stan-lee

#1. Stan Lee- If not for the work of this man, we may not have conventions such as Wizard World to even attend!  Stan Lee is a geek hero.  He has created some of the most iconic characters in comics, which have gone on to transcend the pages of his books and enter the everyday lives every one of us.  From television, to movies, to video games, Stan Lee’s creations are everywhere.  He’s still going strong at the age of NINETY!  According to the program info provided by Wizard World, Mr. Lee is probably the hardest working man at the convention.  You can join him at multiple paid VIP events or just attend on Saturday from 3-3:45pm as Stan Lee answers your questions and tells his inspiring story.  If there is one man you should shake the hand of and thank for everything he has done to make our geek lives more interesting, it is this man.  Excelsior!

There you have it folks, that’s what I am looking forward to next weekend.  Come join us in St. Louis and celebrate everything geek.  If you can’t make it, check out the Wizard World website here and see if there is an upcoming con in your neck of the woods.   Follow me on Twitter @SeanMLScott as we tweet live from the convention!  Until my next list…allons-y!!
