Geekend Review

Sunday, September 16th, 2012. and these are your top stories. There’s been a lot circling the wagons as fall TV slides into place, the iPhone 5 shakes it up like some sort of outdated instant photograph (that I argue still has a very valid place in this world), and Japan joins the list of countries around the world siding with Samsung. All this and maybe some, so keep it tuned here for your Geekend Review.

Japan joins Seoul in a court ruling, siding with South Korean company Samsung in the mobile device wars. “Samsung Galaxy is like the name states, the phone for the entire Galaxy and far be it for us to go against the Milky Way…” said one court official in Tokyo last night when probed for details in the court ruling. They didn’t actually say this, but it’d be cool if they did. Tokyo courts did rule in favor of Samsung though, and Apple stocks fell in a few markets globally while Samsung sees a spike. Samsung continues to be the largest cell phone producer world wide even after sustaining heavy losses here in the states in what is sure to continue as a long and brutal cellular war.

Fall TV makes a hard hitting return (see related articles 8 Fall Shows and Sons of Anarchy and Doctor Who premier reviews). Doctor Who season 7 aired it’s third episode of the new season last night. A tired Amy and Rory Pond express their weariness of space adventures and problems with aging, setting up for a companion swap. Sons of Anarchy kicked it off pretty hard Tuesday night. Piney is dead, and the club knows Clay killed him. It’s crazy. This week Parks and Rec make it’s return to the airwaves and it would really seem that everything begins rolling in from there. So watch this site intensely for all the fall reviews.

Elections are less than two months away. If you recall much from 4 years ago, and it’s hard believe me I know. But try and reach back and fire up those neurons and those Jimmy Neutrons and total recall what SNL was doing. Tina Fey was one of the most talked about character’s anywhere as America prepared to elect it’s first black president. She shook things up and possibly influenced a vote or two with her impersonation of Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin. Well, dust off those viewing goggles because SNL is breaking in a new Obama for the election cycle. Four years now Fred Armastan has brought the prez to life, but last night new member Frank Ocean ushers forth his verbal dance moves in an uber fun Obama impersonation. I look forward to the new bits.

To the right here is a picture of the Nexus 7. It’s not the i5 or iPhone 5 which launched on the 12th but it looks similar am I right? Of course most TV’s tablets and computers have for the past decade. However the iPhone5  has a newly redesigned charging port which will make all of those third party accessories you’ve been stock piling for years now obsolete. Other than that it really looks like the same phone as iPhone 1. It has a few new bells and whistles and finally gets 4G speed (welcome to the modern era), but more or less it’s meet the new boss same as the old boss. Read our review.

Well, that’s all for now. Of course stay in touch everyday and we’ll bring you all the geek news we can as it’s happening here at 8daysageek and keep coming back every Sunday for the wrap-up. OH! New fifth row of icons! That’s something the i5 has! Totally worth a few hundred dollars. Who cares if the economy is in the tank.
