This week’s app review will once again focus on social networking. But this time, the review will touch on an upstart in the social game with a fun twist. This newcomer is called StumbleUpon. It truly is a great social network. You create a profile, chose the areas of interest that peak your curiosity, and like and share the pages that you find. StumbleUpon will present to you articles or sites that are molded to your interests at the push of a button. Cool, right? Well the mobile app follows in those same footsteps.

The app itself is gorgeous, with vivid colors and an attractive layout. The UI is smooth and provides the user with a pleasant experience. The ease of use of this app is great. I’ve shared articles that I’ve written with fellow Stumblers, or simply added my articles to the database so that anybody Stumbling can find my work. You can do this straight from the browser on your phone, and it works flawlessly. You can follow fellow Stumblers or follow your favorite channels that provide you with clips, such as Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim channel.

There are only a couple of knocks I have on this app. One of them is temporary; as I am sure it will get fixed in the near future. This app will force close when you attempt to update your profile picture. I’m not too sure if this is specific to the app itself or my S3. Nonetheless, it needs to get fixed. The second knock is that you cannot update your personal description via your mobile device. Yeah it’s something small, but anytime I can avoid turning on my laptop just to do something that I should be able to do on my phone, is a plus.

The beauty of this app is in its functionality. You can truly do pretty much everything you can on the site directly from your phone, with some exceptions. Those exceptions are what keep this app from getting a perfect score, because otherwise it is a stunning app with functionality and an awesome idea. I give this app a rating of 4/5.

About Steven Brewer

I’m a lifelong comic book fan. Comics pulled me in at an early age, with influences ranging from Chris Claremont’s historic X-Men run, Walt Simonson’s Thor run, Mike Zeck’s run on The Punisher limited series, Jim Lee’s X-Men, the early 90’s X-Men animated series, and the best cartoon ever made, Batman: The Animated Series. As a kid, these comics and cartoons gave me a new world to go to when the real world wasn’t so nice. Because of this, comic books will always have a special place in my heart. I love everything about comics, and still get the same feeling reading them today as I did when I was a kid. My major in college was psychology, so I love to incorporate that into comics.
