Let’s all face the facts; social networking has taken over our lives. From the earliest days of social networking when MySpace ruled the land, to the current social media darling, Twitter, social networking has become a staple in our lives. It has grown hand in hand with smartphones, expounding nearly as fast as the technology that it thrives on (with the exception of a few *Ahem* Facebook).

Nowadays, you can’t walk down the street and not see at least one person on their phone sending a tweet or posting to Facebook. It’s just a common occurrence now. Of course with the boom of social networking also comes the plethora of choices we have. MySpace was mentioned earlier, you guys remember that site? Facebook rose from the ashes of MySpace and is now beginning to suffer from the same fate. Twitter is the go to social network now, with seemingly anything and everything having a Twitter profile now. Google+ is the beautiful, rising star poised to take over when the others begin to fall. Then we have Linkedin. Oh Linkedin, you try so hard to NOT be Meg Griffin, but are always told to shut up by the rest of the family. Fortunately, Linkedin’s status among the various social networks does not keep developers such as Bostone Consulting from giving it their best shot in developing a mobile app.

Seriously, the Droidin app is good. It’s simple to use and straight to the point. It doesn’t have too much crazy going on to the point of getting lost within the app. Sometimes some social networking apps simply have too much going on, making it difficult to create a quick post on the go. This totally defeats the purpose of a mobile networking app. Droidin has all the basic features of any networking app, such as notifications and contacts syncing. You can also update your profile, keep track of your inbox and invites, and search the job postings.

Overall, Droidin is one of those apps that are better than what the actual social networking company has to offer. The UI is easy to use and looks good enough, and the features are on par with what similar apps have to offer. Unfortunately, Droidin is hampered by Linkedin’s lack of support for the Linkedin API. This keeps some of the desired features from reaching the Droidin mobile app.

That is why Droidin gets a 3.5/5.

About Steven Brewer

I’m a lifelong comic book fan. Comics pulled me in at an early age, with influences ranging from Chris Claremont’s historic X-Men run, Walt Simonson’s Thor run, Mike Zeck’s run on The Punisher limited series, Jim Lee’s X-Men, the early 90’s X-Men animated series, and the best cartoon ever made, Batman: The Animated Series. As a kid, these comics and cartoons gave me a new world to go to when the real world wasn’t so nice. Because of this, comic books will always have a special place in my heart. I love everything about comics, and still get the same feeling reading them today as I did when I was a kid. My major in college was psychology, so I love to incorporate that into comics.
