TWIG: 3D Mario meltin’ off your face.

Have you beat Darksiders 2 yet? If you haven’t, why not? I kid. I kid. I just started playing the first one the day the sequel came out. I’m on top of this game news, really. This is what we have to look forward to this week.

New Super Mario Bros 2

3DS

The new 3DS XL also comes out  on the 19th. Enjoy your King Midas-inspired Mario adventure on an extra big 3D screen for you to melt off your facey face. I do joke about that, but I can’t help it if I can’t play a 3D game without getting a big headache.

IGN:

Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, but this time, Mario has another objective. The Mushroom Kingdom is bursting with more gold coins than before. Each level is littered with gold as coins rain down from overhead pipes, trails of coins are left behind special gold enemies and gold pipes transport Mario into coin-filled caverns. It’s up to players to collect as many coins as possible throughout their adventure.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

August 21, 2012

PS3, X360, PC

This sequel to the 2010 game War of Cybertron still centers around the Autobots and Decepticons fighting metal to metal, without humans. This is how it should be. Do you hear that, Hollywood? We don’t need any Battleship/Transformer films mucking up a good series.

IGN:

The war on planet Cybertron rages on in this second chapter of the phenomenally successful action game series. Transformers: Fall of Cybertron takes fans through the final, darkest hours of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons as they fight for control of their dying planet, ultimately leading to their storied exodus from home.

With the stakes higher and scale bigger than ever, fans will control an unprecedented assortment of Transformers characters armed with authentic transformation designed around their unique abilities, including Grimlock’s nearly indestructible T-Rex form and the legendary Combaticons forming into the colossal Bruticus. Taking the franchise’s competitive online play to all-new heights, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron pits players head-to-head in blistering Autobot vs. Decepticon matches. Before multiplayer combat, players can create their own unique characters with the most in-depth, advanced customization ever before seen in a Transformers game.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

August 21, 2012

PS3, X360, PC, Mac

I like Valve, do you like Valve? I’m pretty horrible at FPS games, especially if they are more reality based. (I’m really good at Bulletstorm, though.) This is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike franchise, which hasn’t been catapulted into fame like Call of Duty or Black Ops, but has made a name for itself. This game keeps most of its classic qualities and opts to introduce a few new game modes.

IGN:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive expands upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered with Half-Life: Counter-Strike. CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons, and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content. In addition, CS: GO introduces new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

WayOfTheSamurai4

Way of the Samurai 4

August 21, 2012

Playstation 3

This game looks weird. Therefore it is worth playing, You get to play as a nameless Samuari who wanders into the fictional port town of Amihama. You can either help the government , help the rebels repelling the government, or help keep peace with the British Navy. Some of the other screenshots floating around online really illustrate the potential naughty portions of this game, but it is rated Mature for a reason. Maybe this one might be worth a Gamefly rental.

IGN:

Torture chambers, naughty midnight missions in the dark and all the brutal slaughtering you can handle await in this sandbox-style samurai period action game. Admiral Perry has just opened Japan’s borders to the British, allowing for a long-overdue globalization process to begin. Unfortunately, one of the open ports happens to be a modest Japanese burg called Amihama, where a resistance group known as the “Disciples of Prajna” have taken up arms against the arriving foreigners and all who support them.

As a lone samurai who’s just arrived amidst the chaos, it’s up to you whether you want to join forces with the Prajna resistance, fight alongside the foreigners in the name of progress or take your stance somewhere between the two by supporting the local government’s attempts to quell the violence (through any means possible).
