Powerhouse mobile developer and sub-brand of Electronic Arts, Chillingo Ltd., strikes the AppStore again! You play as Scoop, a boy-wonder whose skill as a mail courier pilot takes him upon a terrific adventure. Sounds simple? Don’t be fooled. Air Mail combines the right supplements of appeal, difficulty, and addiction factor that makes it the perfect candidate for any age gamer to properly enjoy.

Judging by the vast amount of gaming customization and features Chillingo’s packed into their latest friendly flyer, Air Mail appears to have been shaped by the keyword “multiple.” As a gamer, the first thing you’re most likely to notice (other than the firm graphics and pleasant atmosphere) are the choices Chillingo allows you to make when playing. Whether you prefer touch-control or the accelerometer, you’re covered. Want to control your airplane from various camera angles? Check! There are three difficulty levels to procure your interest. There are several different worlds of sufficient length to explore. Finally, included are multiple modes of playing: mission, speed challenge, and exploration, each of which consist of their own goals and challenges you must accomplish, scoring bonuses like new paint jobs and such for your aircraft. Keeping the above aspects in mind, they all add up to create a very customizable setup for an optimal gaming experience.

Other Kudos: The graphics aren’t horrible! As Chillingo hones their mobile gaming skills, their virtual engine seems to be becoming more intuitive as well. Chillingo’s boast of realistic flight simulation with any of the three control schemes rings true: really feels like you could soar through (or drop straight out of) the sky.

HONESTLY!?
Who doesn’t love a good flying game?

Suggestion Box: There’s nothing too horribly wrong with Air Mail. I just wish that the main character encountered a thunderstorm in one of the levels. It would also be nice if elevated wind currents were added as the difficulty was increased. Finally, I applaud Chillingo’s implementation of a non-violent atmosphere, but would it be completely devastating to the “E” rating if you could at least throw fruit or something at your enemies?

Embarrassing Fact: At one point, I found myself making airplane noises. 😉

Bottom Line: Since downloading Air Mail, I’ve been thoroughly addicted. With a lack of beautifully-crafted flying games for iOS, this piece will make a great addition to your collection. Grab it now!

Happy Downloading, Addicts!
