52 Pickup: The DC Shuffle – Batman: The Dark Knight

We’re coming to the end of DC’s New 52 Reboot event and I can’t think of a better way to close it out than DC’s two most epic characters: Batman and Superman.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I first saw that they planned on launching a new The Dark Knight title.  I thought they might go into the past and explore the darker days of Batman, or even jump into the future (like the original storyline did) and see where Batman ends up.

Batman: The Dark Knight does neither of these things.  It takes place in present day Gotham and much the same as Batman displayed, we see Bruce Wayne out amongst the upper-class Gothamites pimping his idea for reconfiguring the city with an improved image.

An interesting plot twist is the appearance of a Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) officer openly implicating Bruce Wayne as being affiliated with the Batman.  I’m sure it’s happened before, but I haven’t seen it so blatantly.

The action sequence of the issue involves, yeah you guessed it, Arkham Asylum.  Predictable, sure, but at least there’s a decent twist.  Two-Face is the character of intrigue and he’s been…changed.

Batman: The Dark Knight introduces a couple of cool new characters, doesn’t involve any Robin characters and shows Bruce Wayne as a man-about-town while maintaining his grip on being the Batman.  I like the feel of this book and I think it could have a solid future in this reboot.

Overall I rate it a KING.  Not spectacular, but definitely a cut above.

The best is yet to come so keep your eyes (and browsers) open on 8DaysAGeek all month long as we tackle the biggest story in comics!

For now,
