Apple App-aholics Anonymous: Molecules

Name: Molecules
Compatible Devices: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Price: Free

This seems to more or less be a novelty app for science geeks. (I’m guessing it looks best on the iPad.) You can watch 3D molecular structures spin or stop them and rotate them yourself, and magnify them. The app doesn’t come with many molecular structures loaded into it, but there’s a search engine built in to it to find more.

This is worth checking out for a couple reasons. It’s a quick download and free. It also makes me think about those totally awesome special effects in older movies when they’re looking at DNA or chemical sequences to figure stuff out. I have that now, and it’s on my phone, a little square I carry around in my pocket. Living in the future is cool!

The downside: editing the molecular structures within the app is nonexistent, so it’s just for looking at.
