App Title: Glympse

Usage:  Sharing your location with friends

Price: Free

I am a Foursquare user, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t just a little nervous about giving my location out to a buch of people at one time (I’m so famous that they may rush me and then I would be up to my ears in autographs).  When I want the world to know where I am or have been I use foursquare, but there are times that I’m running late for a meeting or my wife asks me to call when I get somewhere and for those times I use an app called Glympse.

Glympse allows you to send a link to any phone via a text message or email so that the recipient can look at a map to see where you are.  Glympse doesn’t stop there though.  Say I’m driving home from my parents house in bad weather and they want me to call them when I get home,  Glympse helps me do one better.  Glympse allows you to send your location for a pre-determined amount of time as well as a single location check-in, so when I leave my parents house I send them an hour long Glympse invite to watch my entire drive home.  If you get an invite and have Glympse on your device, you can use the app to watch the sender and see all of your other invites at the same time (great for knowing when guest will be arriving at a party).

Glympse is free to use and doesn’t require an account (though you can put in a nickname so people know who you are).  If you want to be able to let someone know where you are without having to text them a description or call them to have a conversation about what you are seeing around you, try Glympse on for size.  I think you’ll like it.
