I got further along into the new Star Wars Blu-Ray set. Not much though. I still like what I am seeing though. Any who, when I get to a certain point I will do a little review of what I’ve thought. Not that it matter much the darn thing is like how old now? Yes I am slow.

And now the film I wanted to talk about. The Artist was mind blowing. It was awesome. It made so many other films look horrible by even slight comparison. I for once completely agree with the film critics. It was just amazing what they did with film. By far it is one of my all-time favorites. If I bought DVDs, this would be one I would buy. I just cannot praise this film enough. I know Brandon posted a very flattering review and already said many kind words but I just can’t pass up the chance to say some of my own. This is not a movie for everyone but, for those who are so inclined I really recommend it. It really is as close to perfect movie as you can get.

Now on the hand, I will sum my thoughts on The Grey as such. If I went blind I would still rather sit through The Artist again then sit through even a minute of The Grey. The Grey is so over hyped and it does not deserve any of it. There is no character development or even wolf killing. This whole movie should be about all of that. It has none. One wolf is killed and the only guy with any slight backstory is quickly dead. Good job guys. Don’t waste your money on this film. If I could do it all over again I would take my ticket money and burn it. That would be more enjoyable and exciting then this film.

I hate it when a plan doesn't come together

And now something you will really enjoy! The End, see you next week.

I’m sorry that this review is so late, but here it goes.

I understand that this movie is not for everyone. It’s primarily a silent film, with few sounds and fewer words, but this movie was utterly amazing. From beginning to end I was drawn in and hypnotized by the clever directing, this movie is up for best picture in the Oscars and it really should win. I don’t have enough good things to say about it.

The relatively unknown cast was sprinkled with a few familiar faces, but the point of the movie was all about acting, and my god did everyone give the performance of their life. No words, only facial reactions and emotions are shown, so the fact that there was this great story about the rise and fall of two different types of actors and a fantastic love story that is unlike any I’ve ever seen was insane.

I suggest everyone go out and watch this film, I know some people are wary of something that seems so gimmicky, but trust me, you will be happy you saw it. I give this movie the highest ranking I can an A+ and the title of my favorite movie of 2012(So far).

I’m about to get crude and graphic, but The Grey is what I call a Natural DD movie. Natural DD look awesome under a sweater right? Liam Neeson looks awesome fighting wolves. Then you see a little more of those DD, it rocks, cleavage or maybe a swim suit. When I saw more clips of The Grey I got excited, but sometimes, Natural DD are gross, they can be veiny and have wierd giant nipples which completely kills the allure, and this movie was a huge veiny tit.

Did this guy really just compare my movie to a fat boob?

I will give The Grey this, they pulled me in, I wanted to see this so bad I went to a midnight viewing, but then I wish I would of stayed home killing wolves in Skyrim instead of watching Liam Neeson kill ONE! Yes, just ONE damn wolf! I’m not saying I need mindless violence to hold a movie together, but if you are gonna have a weak story that was stretched out of a short story (Ghost Walker by Ian Mackenzie Jeffers, a pretty good read) you need something extra, like maybe some character growth. The many plot holes are glaringly obvious if you think about it. What happened to the other boom sticks he said there were six? Why didn’t the one guy speak up when Ottaway began to lead the group if he knew he was suicidal? How dumb are you to go to the low, heavily wooded area next to running water if you were trying to escape living creatures? How did the annoying guy’s leg heal up so quick? What ever happened with the harvested trees? All questions that start to break the movie down.

I made this just for you guys!

The characters were all very two dimensional, Liam Neeson’s Ottaway was the most fleshed out, and he was kind of dumb, as you discover by the end of the film. The other characters were only given small snippets of personality just so you may care about them when they die, an always slow, painful, uncomfortable death. The one character given some character was ex-con Diaz played by Frank Grillo, but by the time he’s established you want him to die. The characters were all acted well, each one seemed very real, spurting random facts about wolves they heard on Dora The Explorer and making horrible survival mistakes. The Grey does fall to the horror movie mistake of loud sounds to scare you a few times, a gimmick that always irritates me.

Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to die we go!

The movie was directed well, some shots were beautiful and the cinematography was amazing. I enjoyed looking at the harsh environment, the fantastic dream sequences, and the action scenes, but pretty doesn’t make a good movie(Ask Avatar). The graphics were okay, you could really tell what was CGI and what was Animatronic, but you get over that pretty quick since the wolves are shown very little.

I bet you were expecting more of this, and less of people walking in the snow.

The thing is, I was entertained, the movie thought it was being very philosophical, but the corny premise kind of squashes that dream, but it was worth a rent. I give the movie a C based on the solid acting, beautiful scenery, and Liam Neeson being a bad ass. The twists were very predictable, but just go into it with an open mind, after all, it’s still a huge tit.

Kate Beckinsale is back in her shiny, skin tight suit for Underworld Awakening and just as dangerous as she was before. Set after the events of Underworld: Evolution, humans are targeting non-human species (the Lycans and Vampires) and cleansing them, as everyone in the movie puts it.

The movie starts out shortly after the end of Evolution. There are convenient flashbacks from Selene’s point of view that will refresh your memory of the first two movies. The majority of it takes place after Selene and Michael are captured and taken to a lab to be studied. The public demands a cure, and Michael’s hybrid status might provide it. Many years go by, but another subject (aptly named Subject 2) helps Selene escape. Both Lycans and Vampires are living underground, rarely emerging from their sanctuaries in fear of being executed on sight.

Selene has these two guns that are practically automatic and rarely need new clips, but do run out and the most inconvenient time.

Selene, thinking she’s looking for Michael, finds a vampire/lycan hybrid girl, about twelve years old, and saves her from a group of starving Lycans. With the help of a fellow vampire named David they are safe for about two minutes at his coven until the head vampire points out that she’s the Lycan-loving Death Dealer that ruined everything. There are vampires that sympathize with her her original cause, but most are afraid to stand up against their leader.

Her name is Eve, but we mostly know her as Subject Two.

A crippling attack leads Selene away from the coven, thus the second part of the movie. She has to go back to the lab that she was held in to rescue the girl, taken during the attack. She finds a human ally in law enforcement who can clue Selene in on why Eve, Subject Two, is so special. Between the two of them, and her magical automatic pistols (see above image) that almost never need reloading, another bloodbath incurs. We once again see how much six centuries of skill honing can keep someone alive, even in some dire situations.

Awakening has a satisfying final battle, with a nemesis that gives Selene a run for her money. Really, she gets her black-clad butt kicked for most of it but this is The Death Dealer we’re talking about. We are left with an opening for Underworld 5. Awakening‘s story is tight, not wholly original, but leaves no loose threads. The 3D action is utilized well, using it to set the tone and enhance the action. If given the choice, the 3D is good enough to pay the extra for, but don’t worry if your local theatre doesn’t have it in 3D.

I have to be fair, and for dialogue alone, the movie gets a solid B. Some of the lines were heavy handed at times, but don’t let it detour you, especially if you like the Underworld series, or you want to see Kate Beckinsale’s naked body cleverly hidden by fog.

Why hasn’t this been made yet? With the Resdient Evil and Underworld movies making millions I figured every female hero would be launched to the big screen, but Samus STILL isn’t on the big screen, put a hot action star in there and make her a little older, I say 30′s to get that war veteran look better, Let’s go with the great Uma Thurman from Kill Bill and for an added bonus make her wear a bikini at the end and get a call that she needs to go back, the Metroid fanboys will love that.

Okay, so Clash of the Titans wasn’t great, Immortals was strange, and Percy Jackson didn’t deliver the action, but with all of these Greek Mythology based movies being made no one has made a God of War movie? It doesn’t need sharp dialogue just an action star who wants to kick ass, how about Jason Statham as Kratos and we are ready to start killing.
6.Final Fantasy

I have done a few Final Fantasy fan casts, and honestly, why a live action movie based on one of the hit games or even a good original script hasn’t made it onto the big screen is beyond me. Here are a couple of my casts (LINK) (LINK) tell me what you think?
5.Metal Gear Solid

I will be the first to tell you that I’m not a huge spy movie guy, but if the spy movie had giant robots, psychic assassins, and a dude with killer birds then I would watch that all day long, Christian Bale has already shown interest in being Solid Snake and with his impressive career he has shown that he can age himself so we can get all the Snakes everyone loves.
4.Megaman

Kids movies do well, even if they are horrible, like that recent attempt at Astro Boy, but kids don’t want to see one half naked boy fight robots, they want to see a gun arm robot fight other robots with crazy powers! This could be a massive CGI animation franchise with tons of characters, but instead we will have to just sit back and wish for a Snake Gun on screen, A SNAKE GUN!
3.Gears of War

I hate FPS games, I think most of them lack any original design or idea, but a few stand out with great story lines and better characters and G.O.W. is definitely one of these titles, Franky G from the second Saw movie is huge, and already looks like Dom, so why not create an ensemble cast around him and get this sucker made.
2.Chrono Trigger

Harry Potter is over. Plus, all the other fantasy based movies with a young lead have sucked. We need a new Harry Potter, how about Crono, he would be a great Potter! Magic, Time Travel, and robots kids love these things! I made a DREAM CAST for it not long ago and I think this movie would hold up.
1.Pokemon

There have been as many movies as there have been Pokemon, but no live action, WHY!? This is a simple money making machine, I will have a Cast up fpr this next month showing who should play the original team in an epic, franchise starring some of the most beloved characters on TV and in video games. The fake trailer had so many views you would assume something would happen.

I cast what would be a two part Daredvil movie, no Ben Affleck, no Jennifer Garner, a good Daredevil movie.

Daredevil – Patrick Flannery

The Man without fear, lets make this the current older Daredevil, a happier man who fights crime, Flannery would be an amazing Daredevil, watch Boondock Saints and tell me otherwise.

Foggy Nelson – Sean Astin

The bumbling best friend and law partner of Matt Murdock, know one plays a best friend better than Samiwise.

Stick – Bruce Spence

The old blind teacher who taught Daredevil about his powers as a child will be killed by the evil Tyhpoid Mary, which starts Daredevil on his journey.

Elektra – Jolene Blalock

Elektra would show up in the sequel as one of the assassins hired by Kingpin to take down Daredevil, and be a love interest. Jolene Blaylock has a strange and sexy foreign look that works great as the mysterious Elektra

Bullseye – Norman Reedus

Bullseye is another one of the three Assassins hired to kill Daredevil in the sequel, and when he finds out that Elektra has a bounty and is defending Daredevil, he kills her. Norman Reedus has worked with Flanery before and could easily do this role with a sinister twist.

Gladiator – Manu Benett

The third assassin to be hired by Kingpin in the sequel, he wouldn’t last through the movie as he will meet a grizzly fate at the hands of his own blades. Manu Benett is big and scary, and that’s all Gladiator needs.

Typhoid Mary – Mary Tabrett Bethell

A friend of Matt Murdock with a split personality, her evil side killed Stick and swears allegiance to the Kingpin, but her good side just wants to help Daredevil stop her, she commits suicide in the climatic ending of the first movie. The super sexy and mood swinging Bethel plays crazy well, real well.

King Pin – James Gandolfini

The big boss who Daredevil threatens at the end of the first movie after he lets Typhoid kill herself, he hires assassins to kill him in the sequel. Gandolfini would be a great Kingpin, shave him bald.

I came up with a plot, story, and cast for the possible Ghostbusters 3, tell me what you think.

Oscar Barrett, Dana’s son and Venkman’s stepson – Aaron Johnson

Oscar was Dana Barrett’s baby in the second movie, not Peter Venkman’s child, but Venkman cared for him like he was his son. Aaoron Johnson has proven he can be a leading man, and who better to take the torch from the legend, Bill F%^$ing Murray.

Jenny Stantz, Rays Daughter – Madeline Zima

The movie needs a hot female lead, Madeline Zima would be perfect as the smoking hot daughter of Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz.

Teddy Zeddmore, Winston’s nephew – Michael B. Jordan

Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddmore was always the tough guy on the team, so his protege needs to be tough, watch The Wire, this guy is tough.

Josh Gamble, Rays and Egon’s understudy – Josh Gad

I wanted a Ghostbusters fan to become a member, and I thought Josh Gad would be great as the nerdy ghost expert under tutelage from Harold Ramis’ Egon Spengler.

Lana Tully, Louis and Janines daughter – Kat Dennings

Although a relationship formed between Egon and Janine in the first movie, Louis Tully and Janine were romantcally involved in the second movie, and the Rick Moranis’ Louis became a Ghostbuster at the end. Louis and Janine’s child would need to be smart and sarcastic Kat Dennings is perfect.

The Story:

Louis died in an accident 15 years ago, and the Ghostbusters split up.Ray and Egon still study ghosts and have worked with a young fan named Steve Gamble who knows all there is about ghosts. One night Ray’s daughter Jenny Stantz gets attacked by a ghost and is saved by Oscar Barret, now being raised by Venkman and Dana, even though Oscar won’t take Venkman’s name. Venkman is now back in the fold, while discussing bringing the team back together they visit Winston’s auto body shop and meet his nephew Teddy Zeddmore who doesn’t believe in ghosts, but Teddy is a mechanical genius, and the group finds out that Winston has been keeping the Ecto one in running condition for 20+ years.

They decide to train new Ghostbusters made up of Oscar, Teddy, Gamble, and Jenny, but the plasma packs are in storage and Janine (now Louis’ widow) has the key, after they get the packs Teddy develops ways to mix the proton streams with the mood ectoplasm to create a more lightweight, safer, and stronger proton pack, they also meet Louis and Janine’s very straight forward and forcefull daughter Lana Tully, who wants to join the team in honor of her father. Egon and Janine rekindle a romance and the team face off against actual demons who are trying to open a gateway to hell in central park.

It turns out that Gozer has returned for her children, human mortals who have been touched by demon magic, which turn out to be Lana and Oscar, The New Ghostbusters must team up with the old Ghostbusters to save New York and each other. Venkman sacrifices himself to save Oscar and Gozer is defeated, after the battle the Ghost of Louis shows up to bring Venkman into the after life and confesses he attacked Jenny to bring everyone back together and then goes to heaven giving Egon and Janine his blessing. The movie ends with the New Ghostbusters re-opening the business and Janine and Egon marrying, Oscar taking Venkman’s name and his new girlfriend Jenny studying ghosts with Gamble, Lana showing interest in Gamble and Teddy taking over the team as the leader. All the corniness and crap that studios love. What do you think?

I end the year with my list of my favorite geek movie to come out in 2011, I’m including just geek movies, so things like Drive and Hobo With a Shotgun are not going to make the list, no matter how awesome they were. I know there are a few weeks left so The American, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, TinTin, and Sherlock Holmes won’t make it. I feel like they aren’t necessarily guaranteed to make the list anyway.

8. Attack The Block

Attack The Block was one of the original ideas to come out this year in a very sequel or remake or adapted screenplay year. I didn’t get to review the amazing movie, but sometimes contributor James Midgett did, here it is. I really did enjoy this, it was so different that it drew me in. Go see it.

7. Rango

Hands down my favorite animated movie of the year, it’s only competition was Kung Fu Panda 2 and possibly The Adventures of Tintin, but Kung Fu Panda 2 let me down a bit, I loved the first one, but this one, although good, lacked some of the charm from the first one. Anyway, Rango, the ugliest movie of the year, wait, did Sex in The City 2 come out in 2011? No? Okay, Rango, the ugliest movie of the year was absolutely amazing. I loved it, read my review here.

6. Thor

A million comic book movies came out in 2011, maybe not quite a million, but I believe a solid 15 may have. Thor was one of these, I have to admit, I’m not a huge Thor fan, I never caught on to the character. I went and saw it with low expectations and was blown away. The humor was great, the action was cool, and the acting was top notch. Tim Blacksmith reviewed it here and I stand by his high rating.

5. X-Men: First Class

X-Men 2 was amazing, one of my favorite comic book movies, but I started to lose hope after X3 and Wolverine, those were terrible movies. First class looked good and I was kind of excited, but then I watched it and was amazed, I reviewed it with Jesse here and I still hope that this begins a new trend of good X movies.

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

I don’t like the books, I know, I know I here it all the time, but I liked the movies, then around movie five I began to love them, The final two were very dark, but my favorite, I reviewed it here. The movies are going to go down in history as one of the bravest endeavors in the movie industry, here’s hoping they try a similar path with The Dark Tower

3. Captain America: The First Avenger

I really like Captain America, I think he is an amazing character, and going in to this I was unsure, Chris Evans wasn’t known for his seriousness and Steve Rogers is a serious guy. The idea of Captain America is a bit corny by todays standards as well, so I was hoping it would translate well, it did. I know a lot of people who won’t like this above X-Men or Thor, but This is my list, so suck it. Read my review here, and remember that I was still in a daze about the horrible treatment of my favorite character Green Lantern on film

2. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Apes, the title it should be called, was amazing. Jesse and I were enthralled from about five minutes in, usually we chat a bit during the movies to help flesh out ideas for the reviews, but not this time. If you haven’t seen this yet, rent it as soon as you can, it was amazing, read my review here, and honestly let’s get Andy Serkis an Oscar for this stuff.

1. The Muppets

Half way through The Muppets I knew it would be my movie of the year. I thought that it had the best combination of comedy, drama, action, and romance, and Muppets. This was an amazing film, I can’t wait to buy this and see the extra features. Read my review here to understand how much I loved this film.

Aquaman – Leonardo Dicaprio

Aquaman the King of Atlantis, this movie could be an epic tale of the rise of Arthur as King, so it needs an epic actor. It’s time for Leo to step out of his Oscar shoes and do something fun. He would be a fantastic Lord of the Seas, after all he is always wet. Seriously, look back at all of his movies, for some reason or another he will end up wet. This movie would show the growth of Arthur as a young king to the great leader that he is today.

Mera – Kate Mara

Mera is from a rival underwater race and considered to be one of the most rage filled being on the planet, that is until Aquaman calms her raging heart, the beautiful Kate Mara can act along side Leo and not be drowned out. Plus she can get real angry.

Black Manta – Gary Dourdan

An Eco terrorist and constant thorn in Aquamans side, Black Manta is everything the Atlanteans hate about the surface dwellers. Gary Dourdain does cocky and intense like it’s second nature, he would be a great Black Manta. For this movie Black Manta would be the head of a terrorist group that wants the Atlanteans dead, they see them as unnatural beings and want to purify the Earth.

Aqualad – Wyatt Smith (Garth) Jaden Smith (Kandor)

Aquamans ward and a student of the mystic water magic of Atlantis, Aqualad is eager to please, but not very strong physically. Wyatt Smith is a young actor who would fit the role of the ill fated Aqualad. Jaden Smith is really overused, but as far as serious acting goes there are no others that fit the shape of the young Kandor as well. I say for this movie we kill him, The Black Manta could effect the entire kingdom by letting Garth die. Black Manta would be locked up in the prison that holds the most dangerous Atlantean criminals and father a child that would take over as the new Aqualad, Kandor, in the sequel that takes place 15 years later, which he shows up super-powered by Ocean Masters magic as the monstrous Black Manta.

Ocean Master – Cillian Murphy

Aquamans brother and a powerful magician, he would be the villain of the sequel angry at Aquamans relations with the surface world, he entered the atlantean prison and trained Black Mantas son to become Aquamans new ward, secretly training him to betray and kill Aquaman, but he would have a change of heart and turn against the evil Ocean Master who at the films climax would release all of the criminals from the Atlantean prison.

With Chris Nolan leaving Batman I figured he would have a large open schedule to turn another hero into a blockbuster, Aquaman could be that hero.

I’m a huge fan of the Muppets, one of the biggest I’d say, and when I heard there was going to be a new Muppet movie after 12 years of Muppetless theaters I was more excited than Animal behind a drum set.

This movie was excellent, it introduced new characters into the Muppet universe like Walter, 80′s Robot and the Moopets, brought back some obscure forgotten characters like Lew Zealand, Crazy Harry, and Uncle Deadly, and of course brought back the big guns like Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie. The best part was that Rizzo and Pepe had barely any lines, I hate those guys.

The human stars were fantastic, Jason Segel and Amy Adams were adorable as the small town couple in love who help Gary’s (Segel) brother Walter reunite the Muppets. Chris Cooper played the villian, and he was evil, no excuse. Rashida Jones plays a TV exec who gives the Muppets the chance they need. The cast was great, but for a real fun drinking game take a shot everytime there is a celebrity cameo. I tried to name all of them and I may have forgotten some, but her’s who I saw: Neil Patrick Harris, Zach Galifinakis, Jack Black, James Carville, Jim Parsons, Kristen Schaal, Alan Arkin, Ken Jeong, Sarah Silverman, Donald Glover, Emily Blunt, Whoopi Goldberg, Selena Gomez, Dave Grohl, Judd Hirch, John Krasinski, Rico Rodriguez, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs and Eddie Pepitone, crazy right?

Overall I was super excited about this movie and it was amazing. I know it sounds goofy, but The Muppets is my favorite movie of 2011. I give it an A+ grade, 5 out of 5, and I recommend it to everyone. If you want to see some real cranky people who hate their lives go look at the rotten reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, they all seem so sad.

As an added bonus, I got to see the new Toy Story short Small Fry, a toys view at the life of a children’s fast food toy. It was fun to see the gang again and it had some laugh out loud moments. Go see The Muppets and get this double bonus.

One of my favorite games of all time, if it was brought to the big screen who would play who?

Crono – Anton Yelchin

Crono is the young and brash hero, he didn’t talk much in the game so it would be hard to properly identify how he acts, so I went with someone who deserves to be a leading man. Anton Yelchin is ready for a lead role in something more geek related. I think he would be a great hero.

Marle – Dakota Fanning

The enchanting and mysterious love interest of the hero and the key to the entire time travel aspect of our story. Dakota is a good actress who is perfect for the temperamental and clever Marle.

Luca - Emma Roberts

The smart and perky brains of the group, Luca pushes the story along most the time by telling the team what to do.. Emma Roberts has shown her acting skills in numerous movies, I think she would be great as the spunky Lucca

Frog – Ioan Grufudd

Royal warrior with a horrible curse, Frog is the muscle of the group and he is the first adult to join the kids. Ioan calm voice and royal demeanor would be great as the heroic Frog, lets just put Fantastic 4 behind us.

Robo - Peter Serafinowicz

Robo joins us when our heroes jump to the future and makes fast friends with the engineering genius Luca. Robo is A robot with a heart and the wonderfully voiced Serafinowicz would bring this robot to life.

Ayla – Lauren Storm

The uninhibited jungle girl and ancient ancestor of Marle. No real acting is necessary, just looking good half naked and some tough moves, Lauren Storm could do this role and finally get into mainstream stuff.

Magus - James Frain

the mysterious and dark magician he starts as the villain, but he eventually sees the error of his ways and joins the team. Frain has proven himself as incredibly dark, I think a redeeming role as the once villain Magus could prove his chops.

I, along with other Netflix subscribers, received an apology email from Netflix CEO Reed Hasting this morning. What was he apologizing for? He was apologizing for his company being a bit of a D-bag lately. Here is the exact email that I received:

Dear Jesse,

I messed up. I owe you an explanation.

It is clear from the feedback over the past two months that many members felt we lacked respect and humility in the way we announced the separation of DVD and streaming and the price changes. That was certainly not our intent, and I offer my sincere apology. Let me explain what we are doing.

For the past five years, my greatest fear at Netflix has been that we wouldn’t make the leap from success in DVDs to success in streaming. Most companies that are great at something – like AOL dialup or Borders bookstores – do not become great at new things people want (streaming for us). So we moved quickly into streaming, but I should have personally given you a full explanation of why we are splitting the services and thereby increasing prices. It wouldn’t have changed the price increase, but it would have been the right thing to do.

So here is what we are doing and why.

Many members love our DVD service, as I do, because nearly every movie ever made is published on DVD. DVD is a great option for those who want the huge and comprehensive selection of movies.

I also love our streaming service because it is integrated into my TV, and I can watch anytime I want. The benefits of our streaming service are really quite different from the benefits of DVD by mail. We need to focus on rapid improvement as streaming technology and the market evolves, without maintaining compatibility with our DVD by mail service.

So we realized that streaming and DVD by mail are really becoming two different businesses, with very different cost structures, that need to be marketed differently, and we need to let each grow and operate independently.

It’s hard to write this after over 10 years of mailing DVDs with pride, but we think it is necessary: In a few weeks, we will rename our DVD by mail service to “Qwikster”. We chose the name Qwikster because it refers to quick delivery. We will keep the name “Netflix” for streaming.

Qwikster will be the same website and DVD service that everyone is used to. It is just a new name, and DVD members will go to qwikster.com to access their DVD queues and choose movies. One improvement we will make at launch is to add a video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Members have been asking for video games for many years, but now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done. Other improvements will follow. A negative of the renaming and separation is that the Qwikster.com and Netflix.com websites will not be integrated.

There are no pricing changes (we’re done with that!). If you subscribe to both services you will have two entries on your credit card statement, one for Qwikster and one for Netflix. The total will be the same as your current charges. We will let you know in a few weeks when the Qwikster.com website is up and ready.

For me the Netflix red envelope has always been a source of joy. The new envelope is still that lovely red, but now it will have a Qwikster logo. I know that logo will grow on me over time, but still, it is hard. I imagine it will be similar for many of you.

I want to acknowledge and thank you for sticking with us, and to apologize again to those members, both current and former, who felt we treated them thoughtlessly.

Both the Qwikster and Netflix teams will work hard to regain your trust. We know it will not be overnight. Actions speak louder than words. But words help people to understand actions.

Respectfully yours,

-Reed Hastings, Co-Founder and CEO, Netflix

p.s. I have a slightly longer explanation along with a video posted on our blog, where you can also post comments.

So in recap, Netflix will now only deal with streaming, Quickster will deal with DVDs and (hopefully) games, and Reed Hastings is sorry for not letting his customers know. I understand the seperation of the streaming and DVD services into different services within Netflix, however, I think that spliting DVDs into a different team is a little much. Oh well.

You want to make me happy Reed Hastings? Don’t take away our ability to stream to 2 or more streaming devices at once. Some of us like that feature.

Do you think this is a good move for Netflix, or are they just wasting time and energy?

So I know that with everything going on in the DCU right now it’s hard to remember that there’s even another comic company out there sometimes, even though Newsarama posts more Marvel stories than DC stories everyday, still…strange, dontcha think?

But moving away from that subject, I just caught a glimpse of the new Spiderman Trailer and I have to say, I was seriously impressed. They casting looks solid (who doesn’t love Martin Sheen!) and no, Andrew Garfield isn’t Tobey McGuire, but that’s OK it should be a different spin, especially for this new origin.

I will say this though, Origin Stories are REALLY getting played out for me. It’s why I liked Superman Returns, even when a bunch of people hated it. Superman has been a known commodity for more than seventy years, do we really need another re-telling of his origin? Can’t we just accept that EVERYONE knows he’s from Krypton (or at least not from Earth) and that EVERYONE knows he grew up on a farm?

Same thing with Spiderman. EVERYONE knows he got bit by a “radioactive” spider EVERYONE knows his uncle dies. Lets skip over that and move forward to the stuff everyone wants to see (and no I don’t mean Emma Stone’s breasts…though I can’t say I’d complain) I mean Spiderman in action; fighting crime and being a hero!

This has been an official Tim Blacksmith Rant.

Enjoy the trailer!

Bone is one of the most epic graphic novels ever written. Jeff Smith blends humor, action, fantasy, and emotion into a story that pulls at your heart and makes you really connect with the book. With Harry Potter ending we need another series to grasp on to. I see this movie as a mix of live action characters with CG characters. Movies like Garfield and Alvin an the Chipmunks have made this a joke. I think Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Lord of the Rings have shown that CG characters work.

Phone Bone – Elijah Wood

Fone Bone is a lot like Frodo if you think about it

The main character and all around good guy, Phone Bone is the quiet and at first easily spooked hero who is the purest of the Bone cousins. Elijah’s calm and meek voice is what I hear every time I read the series.

Phoney Bone – Danny Devito

Same height

Phoney Bone is an angry, manipulative, and all around nasty guy. Deep down he’s really only looking out for his younger cousins. DeVitos voice is perfectly suited for the gruff and slimy Phoney.

Smiley Bone – Bill Fagerbakke

I do miss the days of voice actors doing voice acting

Smiley is not the brightest Bone, but he has a huge heart and cares for both of his cousins greatly. Faggerbakke, who’s voice can be heard on SpongeBob as Patrick would be a perfect fit for Smiley.

Thorn – Emily Browning

let's just forget Sucker Punch

Thorn is the sweet and tough heroine. She has a great destiny and is at first reluctant to fight, as the series goes on we see much growth in her character. Emily Browning get’s a bad wrap, she just needs the right role to flourish, this should be it.

G’ma Ben – Helen Mirren

I can Helen Mirren beating down some rat creatures

G’ma Ben/Rose is Thorns grandmother and so much more powerful then she appears, She knows the secrets of the land and is overly protective of Thorn. Helen Mirren does old and tough with grace and a sense of beauty.

Lucius – Michael Cain

Michael Caine is a bad ass, watch Harry Brown you'll see

Lucius is big, tough, and incredibly charming. Lucius cares for Rose and Thorn as if they were his own and he gains a strange attachment to Phoney and Smiley. Michael Caine is tougher than people give him credit for. He is perfect for this role, even though I’m sure I will get some feedback.

Red Dragon – Patrick Stewart

...and on the day of the dragon, not a fuck was given.

The Great Red Dragon is immensely powerful and carries with him so many secrets. The Dragon is wise, yet his humor is apparent at all times. Patrick Stewart has one of the most epic voices ever, and he is immensely funny.

Ted – Craig Ferguson

a Scottish bug, sounds cool to me

Ted is always there it seems, he is a small bug that always has the right information and the right directions, most of the time. Craig Fergusson’s voice is great, Ted really has no reason to voiced by him, I just like him.

Hooded One – Emma Thompson

mostly voice work, but when she shows herself she's even creepier

The big bad guy at first, and I may be ruining a few things with this casting, but no actress handles heavy make up in such the way Emma Thompson does, that with her great acting will fit together perfectly in this role.

Kingdok – Nick Nolte

and he already kind of sounds like his tongue is gone

Kingdok is the evil lord of the rat creatures, and he is immensely evil, wanting to eat the animal orphans, the urge to kill all the flatlanders, and really just being a dick. Nolte has the gravely rough voice needed for such an evil role.

Go see Fright Night, it’s quite clever

and funny and just suspenseful enough,

and the 3D is nicely used for the most part.

Geekily Yours,

Rachel

Fright Night has (not enough) Evil Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and that’s my favorite kind of Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Is that not enough of a reason to see it? Well…

Let me start by saying I have not seen the original 1985 Fright Night, so this is based solely on this movie. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did, and yet I was very pleasantly surprised and want to go see it again. (A rarity for me.) The movie was shot in 3D and for the most part the shots were planned out very well. When I was handed the 3D glasses I was dreading a conversion, but fear not!

Likes: Light Beer, Apples, Eating People

Basic premise: Ex-Nerd Charley (Anton Yelchin) and his mom (Toni Collette) get a new neighbor. The new neighbor, Jerry (Collin Farrell) is a little strange and pretty soon Charley (with some prompting by his friend Ed, Mintz-Plasse) is under the belief that their day-sleeping neighbor is a vampire. And, no surprise… he is!

Charley tries to enlist the help of Peter Vincent (David Tennant), a Las Vegas magician famous for his show “Fright Night” who claims to be a vampire hunter, and gets turned down. Charley and his girlfriend (Imogen Poots as Amy), and his mom, go on a quest to rid Las Vegas of this uber violent monster vampire and things get hairy. Fortunately for them, Dr. Who Peter finally joins the fight against Jerry. There are some very creative and fun action sequences, especially toward the end.

Collin Farrell revels in his role as the charming yet evil Jerry The Race Car Driver Vampire. He plays creepy to such an effect that I don’t know if I’ll ever look at that Irish face the same. David Tennant, as the absinthe swigging, leather pants wearing Peter Vincent is on par with the quality of his character. He starts out as a cocky, dismissive jerk that’s using a Las Vegas performer persona to hide his fear of the supernatural and finally evolves into someone who has mustered the courage to take action against it.

Likes: Absinthe, Alcohol in general, his latina girlfriend. Dislikes: Ball rash from leather pants.

Like with any remake, they have to update dialogue and setting and character types. There’s a few jabs at pop culture vampires in there (most notably, Twilight) and a reference to Jaws that comes to fruition. It’s clever and funny when it wants to be, and scary when it wants to be, and downright sinister when it wants to be. Example: Jerry has a hidden room behind a closet full of fake uniforms to keep his victims in so he can feed on them over and over and over. Fright Night’s Jerry is a sociopathic monster that will stop at nothing to get what he wants and his actions do not show anything but extreme determination.

Chris Sarandon, the originally Jerry, has a cameo in the film. Some other actors worth mentioning that I recognized, which proves I watch too much television, is Dave Franco (Scrubs: Interns) and Reid Ewing (Modern Family). Some people might recognize Sandra Vergara and think, “where have I seen her?” Well, you’ve probably seen her sister, Sofia Vergara, and I’m in love with them both.

Give Fright Night a chance. If not in theaters, it is most definitely worth watching at home whenever it comes out. Because of Collin and David, I think I might be slowly falling in love with horror movies again.

8. Blade
