So I was very skeptical upon reading this, as the only experience I have with athletes are the blockheads I went to school with, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was very articulate and entertaining.

Mycroft Holmes is the older brother of Sherlock Holmes. He’s very debonair, intelligent, brash and very observant. The story begins with Mycroft being kidnapped by Queen Victoria and taken to a “Toy Shop.” The toys housed in here are not for children. They are mechanical devices created to destroy the world. It appears there was a break-in and several of the devices were taken. Mycroft learns he has been brought in to track down the stole devices and save the world. Just another day of work for Mr. Holmes.

The story is very well written. It kept my attention and never really slowed down. You can see how well thought-out this was. Abdul-Jabbar and Obstfeld do a wonderful job in helping to explain things and create a very believable world. There is a lot of suspense and some humor thrown in at just the right spots. Like at one point, Mycroft grabs Queen Victoria and kisses her, much to the chagrin of those around who accuse him if treason.

The art is wonderful as well. The amount of detail in each panel is amazing. Cassara did a fantastic job. You can see how everything works on the machines and the facial expressions of the characters are perfect. The colorist from the comic Rivers Of London, Luis Guerrero, has done another splendid job with his choice of color palate for this comic. A lot of browns and yellows to fit in with the steampunk theme. It all comes together to make for one very visually ascetic comic.

If you are looking for an intelligent read, this comic is perfect for you. I give it 8 out of 10 tiny hands. (Lost points because I’m not really too big into Steampunk. ;P )
