Movie Trailer Reviews: Kung Fu Panda 3

A new full-length trailer for the third installment in the Kung Fu Panda series has finally landed and it did not disappoint.

The trailer starts out working on a somewhat old trope at this point: that Po has not yet lived up to his potential…it seems like what he does is never enough. Shifu is trying to help him unleash his ultimate inner Dragon Warrior…ness and the visuals are outstanding during these sequences.

The previous teaser trailers gave glimpses into what the second film had hinted at what a major plot point for this film would be: Po is not alone and that other panda still exist, in hiding. It could be argued that finding one panda in the whole of China would be hard to do…but considering he’s the Dragon Warrior we’re gonna chalk it up to name recognition.

Po’s dad shows up and brings him back to the Panda village; which is filled with adorable roly-poly panda babies…which is adorable of course. I assume one will sneeze in the movie – calling it right now.

This film’s villain is from Master Oogway’s past this time, Kai (voiced by J.K. Simmons) and he’s a brooding water buffalo or oxen or…something, all I know is he has some funky hair and a lot of attitude.

Like the previous movies this one is shaping up to be a solid mixture of humor and family fun mixed with semi-serious undertones that can easily be applied to people’s everyday lives. Jack Black is always a treat and I am hopeful that as these movies continue the side characters will get a little more involved, we shall see.
