A Rambler Don Book Review!

This review is a testament to how lazy and how back logged on work I can get. I picked this book up from JoeCon this year and just now had time to sit down and write about it.

Totally Tubular ‘80s Toys by Mark Bellomo

This book is a fun quick little read for those who grew up playing with many of these toys. Be that they got them new as a child of the 1980s or as in my case, hand me downs for an early 1990s kids.

I got this book mainly to look back at what my half-brother had to choose from as a child and to remember what was still hanging on discount shelves when I was but a wee lad. Does anybody else recall when Big Lots and Grandpas had huge toy sections filled with the latest and greatest toys of five before? Those were the days as Archie and Edith would say. At any rate…

I should also note that I got to meet the author and he seemed like a real swell guy. He also wrote some very good comprehensive books on the 1980s 3 ¾ Joes. So if any of you have an interest in those little guys, you may want to look those books up.

This book does have some flaws, mainly misinformation, but seeing as how this is not a comprehensive bible for any one toy or collectable I don’t see that as a real distraction. Not to mention there were not that many times I found myself faced with an incorrect fact or piece of information. I would even venture to say that most people wouldn’t even notice them. Unless they have no life, like me, and know a lot of this stuff by heart.

Now the fun part. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who may have an interest. It is a fun and quick read. It doesn’t stop to over focus on anything and it has awesome photographs of some awesome toys!

  1. I might have to read this book. I had some really awesome toys in the 80s. Does the book address My Little Pony? They were my favorite toys.

  2. It does in fact mention them. But like most of the book, it is only a small passage.
