Apple’s Revamp on the Podcasting Realm

Speaking of constant additions to Apple’s application suite: earlier this week, the good people at Apple rolled their cleverly-named Podcast app onto the iOS AppStore.

But why?

Rumors have surfaced that the new Podcast application by Apple was originally intended to be released on iOS6. If this is true, one must wonder why Apple decided to push only this app an entire season ahead of the remaining updates for iOS6? There simply isn’t any proof, but we have speculations.

As was proposed by another 8DAG member, Apple could have been unsure of the Podcast app’s stability or performance, therefore releasing it to the public before iOS6 as a sort of beta version. It’s true that Apple has done things like in the past, as they have now admitted Siri, as presented on the iPhone4S, was originally a beta version of her actual self we will see in the next major iOS update; that said, it’s not unlikely the Podcast app could be a test.

But why do we need it? Could you not previously stream, listen, download, and collect podcasts through iTunes and the iTunes store? Indeed you could, but after jumping through several hoops to complete all the tasks listed above, owning just a single podcast becomes a bit of a pain in the butt.

Bottom Line: In true Apple fashion, the Podcast app works to simplify the tasks mentioned above by compiling your streaming, downloading, and playing of podcasts into one general interface.

Features: Podcast Library, Catalog, and Top Stations are all included in a neat, touchable interface.

Why should you try it? Yep. It’s free, and it’s made by Apple for Apple, which means it just simply works.

Sound Off: Now, folks, it’s your turn! Do you have any thoughts, opinions, or general comments about Apple, the new Podcast App, and/or why it was launched before iOS6? We reply to every comment, and we’d love to hear from you. Just jot your notes down in the box below!
