This week’s app review is being written as I suffer from a cold (Hey it happens. Even Batman gets a cold!). So please excuse me and this article if we both began to decay into a pile of rambling, incoherent nonsense. This week I’m going to review an app that I have struggled with since its inception. This is the Yahoo Mail app. Now, I say that I have struggled with it because I have had it on both my Droid Incredible and my Droid RAZR and in both instances it has failed to deliver on even the most basic functions. Notifications rarely work properly and are patchy. You will get one email the whole day, and then the next day you will get 50. When you check them you realize that 40 of those emails are from the previous day, and that you never received them on the date they were sent. This app also logs you out by itself randomly. It seemed like every single time I unlocked my phone I got the “problem with your Yahoo Mail identification” message and had to log back in. And what an adventure it is to log back in! It’s really a crap shoot if this app recognizes your username and password the first five tries and doesn’t throw up the ubiquitous error message. Needless to say, these bugs were very irritating, and defeated the whole purpose of having an email app on my phone. Throughout my tumultuous relationship with Yahoo Mail, I found myself asking the same question. “How can a company that has such a reputation with email as Yahoo absolutely screw up their mobile email app?” The one good thing about this app is the fact that it looks decent, when you can get it to work properly. Due to all these major bugs, I ended up uninstalling the app and just using Motorola’s email sync application (which works great by the way). Maybe my scathing review is a product of the brutal cold I’ve been fighting all week, or maybe it’s just because this app really sucks. I have been feeling a lot better lately.

About Steven Brewer

I’m a lifelong comic book fan. Comics pulled me in at an early age, with influences ranging from Chris Claremont’s historic X-Men run, Walt Simonson’s Thor run, Mike Zeck’s run on The Punisher limited series, Jim Lee’s X-Men, the early 90’s X-Men animated series, and the best cartoon ever made, Batman: The Animated Series. As a kid, these comics and cartoons gave me a new world to go to when the real world wasn’t so nice. Because of this, comic books will always have a special place in my heart. I love everything about comics, and still get the same feeling reading them today as I did when I was a kid. My major in college was psychology, so I love to incorporate that into comics.
